Job Summary

Nak’azdli Whut’en is seeking On-Call Casual Workers to support the Guardian Program and other Yinka Huwunline Lead Projects by filling various Field Assistant roles. These positions will involve participating in field-based activities on Nak’azdli territory alongside third-party proponents (e.g., Ecofor, Archer, Stantec) under the direction of a field supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in safety assessments and tailgate meetings
  • Support and assist field crews with assigned tasks
  • Perform fieldwork involving walking long distances over challenging or remote terrain
  • Have some traditional knowledge or familiarity with Keyoh territory, if applicable
  • Record and report wildlife sightings and environmental observations
  • Conduct archeological, biological, or hydrological tasks depending on the project
  • Use GPS devices, tablets, or other field technology as required
  • Other duties as assigned by field supervisor or program manager

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma plus other relevant training or education.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable conditions
  • Experience with ATVs and knowledge of backroad safety
  • Map reading and navigation skills
  • Familiarity with GPS and digital tools for field data collection
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License or willingness to obtain

Additional Information:

  • Must pass a medical screening, including drug testing and health assessment
  • Must comply with all pre-employment and safety standards

Working Conditions

  • Physically fit and able to lift objects, equipment or supplies up to 50 lbs.
  • Able and willing to work outdoors in rough terrain in all weather conditions.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time and walk long distances outdoors.

Hours of Work

Your regular hours of work can be from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., however, will likely be longer days, Monday to Friday up to 35 hours per week. While it is expected that all duties will be performed within these regular working hours, you may occasionally be required to work outside of your normal schedule. Flexibility is therefore essential to meet the needs of the role during periods of irregular demand.
