CanCareer Docs

A short guide to the things you can do.

Curious how grounded tailoring works and how we measure it? Read the Whitepaper.

Getting started

CanCareer is a personal job-application tracker. Sign in once, add the jobs you are applying to, and keep them in one place instead of a spreadsheet.

From the home page, choose Continue with GitHub or enter your email and click Continue with email. The email option sends a magic link — open it from the same device and you are signed in. No password to remember.

Add your first application

Click the + button in the top right. Fill in the company and role, paste the job description, and pick a status (Saved, Applied, Interviewing, Offered, Rejected). Save. The application appears at the top of your list.

You can edit any application later by clicking its row. Editing updates the existing record — your application history is never silently rewritten.

Tracking applications

The home page is your application list. It is designed for hundreds of rows without becoming unmanageable.

Statuses

Each application has a status that you set when you create or edit it. The five built-in statuses are Saved, Applied, Interviewing, Offered, and Rejected. Saved applications stay at the bottom of the list because they have no applied date.

Search

The search box above the table filters by company name or job title. Matching is case-insensitive and runs entirely in your browser, so it is instant.

Filter by status

Use the status pills to narrow the list to one or more statuses. Multiple selections combine with OR — selecting both Applied and Interviewing shows applications in either state.

Sort and paginate

Click a column header to sort by that column. The default order is most-recently- applied first, with Saved rows at the bottom. Pagination kicks in once your list grows; sort and filter always apply across your whole dataset, not just the visible page.

Sort, filter, search, and page are saved in the URL — bookmark a view, share it with yourself, or use the browser back button without losing context.

Resume analysis

For applications with a job description, CanCareer can score how well your resume matches the role using an AI model. This is intended as a sanity check, not as a verdict on your candidacy.

Upload a resume

Open an application and click Upload resume. Pick a PDF or DOCX file. The file is stored privately in your account; only you can read it.

Run an analysis

Click Analyze. The job description and the extracted resume text are sent to our serverless AI, which returns a score and a written rationale. Each analysis is saved so you can compare resume revisions over time.

What the score means

The score is a 0–100 number reflecting how closely the resume covers the job description’s explicit requirements. A high score does not guarantee an interview; a low score does not mean you should not apply. Read the rationale, not just the number.

Free and Pro

Scoring is free: get an instant match score with no signup, and 3 free analyses (score plus written rationale) once you sign in. Pro ($9.99 CAD/month) unlocks unlimited analyses and tailored-resume generation.

Tailored resumes

CanCareer Pro writes a resume tailored to each job you’re applying to — grounded in your real experience, never invented. Other AI tools fabricate skills to match the posting; CanCareer only re-expresses facts that come from your own resumes, and shows you the source of every line.

Your Master Resume

Open Master Resume from the account menu and click Build my profile. CanCareer reads the resumes attached to your applications and extracts your real career facts — each one traced to the exact resume and wording it came from. Conflicting claims across resumes (say, two different team sizes) get flagged for you to resolve. Rebuild any time you upload new resumes.

Generate a tailored resume

Open an application with a job description and click ✦ Tailored resume. CanCareer picks your most relevant facts for that job and rewrites them in the job’s language — adding no skill, metric, or scope that isn’t in the underlying fact. Every bullet carries a ✓ source chip; click it to see the real fact behind the line.

Edit directly or by chatting

The editor is the document: click any line to edit it in place (on your phone, tap to edit in a sheet). Or use the chat beside the page — “make my bullets more concise”, “lead with my strongest section”. If an edit goes beyond your source fact, it gets a quiet amber flag with one-tap revert. And if you ask the chat to add something that isn’t in your experience, it won’t invent it — it offers to add the real fact to your Master Resume instead.

Export to PDF

Click Export PDF. What you see is exactly what prints — selectable text, working links, properly named file. Tip: turn off “Headers and footers” in the print dialog for clean margins.

The honest part

We measure this. How grounding works — and the numbers behind “never invented” — are documented in the whitepaper. Tailored resumes are part of the Pro tier.

Your data

Your data is yours. CanCareer does not sell it, share it with advertisers, or train AI models on it.

Where it lives

Application records, statuses, and analysis results live in a serverless SQL database. Resume files live in object storage. Both sit inside the same worker that serves the site.

Delete an account

Email hello@cancareer.com from the email address tied to your account. Account deletion is permanent and includes all applications, analyses, and uploaded resume files. Requests are processed within 30 days.

For details on what we collect and how it’s handled, see the Privacy Policy.

FAQ

Can I export my applications?

Not via a one-click export yet. If you need a copy of your data, email hello@cancareer.com and we will send you a JSON dump.

Is there a public API?

Not at the moment. The backend has private endpoints used by the web app only. An enterprise / integrations API may follow later; if that is interesting to you, email us.

Does CanCareer apply to jobs on my behalf?

No. CanCareer tracks applications you submit yourself. Automated bulk submission is forbidden by the Terms.

Why was my email magic link not delivered?

Magic links are sent from hello@cancareer.com. Check your spam folder first; if it’s not there, try sending again. If it still does not arrive, reach out and we will help.
