What Will You Be Doing?

As an Environmental Remediation Technologist, you will support environmental characterization and remediation activities at Chalk River Laboratories. You will work closely with professional staff and field teams to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with approved procedures. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Executing characterization and remediation activities, including mock‑up testing, in accordance with approved Work Control Documents and procedures
  • Following the Integrated Work Control Process
  • Adhering to all CNL safety procedures and policies
  • Mentoring junior technical and support staff involved in characterization and remediation activities
  • Completing post‑remediation and characterization field close‑out activities, including arranging the disposition of radioactive and/or hazardous waste
  • Maintaining equipment, procuring consumable supplies, and coordinating the fabrication of specialized tools
  • Assisting professional staff with the preparation of reports, memos, work plans, and procedures
  • Supporting advance planning activities for field campaigns
  • Collecting field data and assisting in the interpretation of results from both field activities and historical records

Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What We Are Looking For

Education

  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology or equivalent formal education in a field relevant to the position, typically with two (2) to three (3) years of pertinent technological experience
    OR
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent, with ten (10) to twelve (12) years of pertinent and progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training

Experience

  • Experience collecting and managing environmental samples (e.g., sediment, soil, groundwater)
  • Training or hands‑on experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Knowledge or hands‑on experience with field analytical methods
  • Experience working in field environments with a strong emphasis on safety
  • Previous environmental characterization and/or remediation experience is considered an asset
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite software

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of disciplines at all organizational levels
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to safely wear a respirator during indoor and outdoor environmental characterization activities

Security Clearance Eligibility Required

Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which requires a minimum of 3–5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom.

CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s Standard on Security Screening and the Policy on Government Security.

Working Conditions

This role operates on a compressed work schedule.

Working Schedule:
Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day, for a forty (40) hour work week.
