POSITION TITLE: Settlement Support Worker

DEPARTMENT: Ma Faamii

CLASSIFICATION: MGO-06

SALARY RANGE: Starting at $68,989.00 Per Annum

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Term (July and August with possibility of extension)

LOCATION: Île-à-la-Crosse

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Deputy Chief, Programs & Services


Brief Overview:

The Settlement Support Workers will provide support to Survivors of the Île-à-la-Crosse School and their families by guiding them through the compensation application process, including explaining eligibility, timelines, and completing required forms. The role involves meeting with individuals in person and remotely to offer personalized assistance, helping gather and organize necessary documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally appropriate guidance to Survivors and their families throughout the application process for the Île-à-la-Crosse School settlement including explaining eligibility criteria and timelines.
  • Meet with Survivors and families both in person and remotely to provide information, answer questions, and offer individualized support.
  • Offer hands-on support in completing applications, ensuring individuals feel supported, respected, and informed.
  • Help applicants gather, review, and organize all required documentation to support their claims.
  • Ensure forms and required documentation are completed accurately.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle all sensitive information in accordance with privacy policies and procedures.
  • Identify and facilitate referrals to complementary services such as mental health supports, cultural healing programs, financial counseling, or community-based resources.
  • Build relationships with service providers to ensure timely and appropriate referrals that address the holistic needs of Survivors and their families.
  • Accurately document interactions, outcomes, and service utilization data to support reporting and program evaluation.
  • Maintain organized records of applications assisted, referrals made, and client engagement metrics. Use data to identify trends, gaps in services, and opportunities for improved outreach or support delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in human services or equivalent combination of academic, professional and/or lived experience.
  • Experience in navigating multi-jurisdictional public systems and systems navigation.
  • Experience in community or public services.
  • Able to maintain privacy and track statistics
  • Ability to communicate in Indigenous languages is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Case management experience is considered an asset.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive service delivery practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of community-based resources, support services, and referral networks available to individuals and families.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively through both in-person and virtual platforms.
  • Sound understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, and communities, including the impacts of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and the unique experiences and challenges faced by Métis citizens.
  • Understanding of the factors which contribute to housing instabilities, mental health challenges, and addictions.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of inter-generational trauma.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing circumstances, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and Adobe software.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required to support program delivery, community engagement, and client services.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access reliable transportation.
  • Must undergo a Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector
  • Must be willing to travel weekly within the province.
