Work term length: 4 months

That’s why it makes sense to choose a co-op placement with a company that offers truly rewarding work and real-life experience. At Definity®, your contributions, creativity, and energy will be put to good use, and you’ll get to be involved with initiatives that support our strategic goals and use your skills in a supportive team environment.

If you’re looking for a company that takes care of its people — full time, part time, and co-ops alike — and has a track record of doing big things, get ready to love it here.

What you’ll be doing

As an Underwriting Co-op within Financial Lines, you will support Account Executives and underwriting teams with new business and renewal activities that contribute to business growth and retention goals. You’ll gain exposure to specialized lines of business including Directors & Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Errors & Omissions, Cyber, and related coverages.

What can you expect in this role

  • Assist Account Executives with new business and renewal activities by gathering and organizing account information for underwriting review and quoting
  • Support the preparation of reports and documentation required to assess and process policies
  • Help process transactions within internal systems, including new business submissions, renewals, policy changes, and cancellations, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
  • Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and update account information in internal systems in accordance with established standards
  • Monitor team inboxes and workflow queues, assisting with task tracking and follow-ups
  • Support timely servicing of accounts to meet internal and external service expectations
  • Communicate with internal teams and assist with responding to basic broker or customer inquiries, escalating as needed
  • Assist with quoting activities within established guidelines and supported supervision
  • Provide administrative support, including data entry and file maintenance
  • Participate in team projects and assignments as required
  • Actively learn about underwriting processes and Financial Lines products through training and on-the-job experience

What you bring

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (Business, Finance, Commerce, or related field preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to collaborate with a team
  • Eagerness to learn and develop knowledge of the insurance industry
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with data systems is an asset (e.g., Guidewire PolicyCenter)
