This job offers the opportunity to work from home as part of a hybrid work arrangement. This arrangement will allow you to work some days at a TCHC work location and the rest of the time from home. The amount of time required to work at a TCHC work location is flexible, while considering operational and service delivery requirements.

Make a difference

TCHC requires an Elevator Inspector to provide overall co-ordination, administration and inspection of elevator capital projects and preventive maintenance. The incumbent will also conduct elevator condition surveys and periodic inspections to ensure contract compliance and effective elevator performance.

What you’ll do

  • Monitoring and assessing performance of contractors, maintaining or repairing elevators in existing TCHC buildings by:
  • Reviewing approved specifications and elevator maintenance agreements and applicable acts, regulations and codes. Inspecting elevator component and related building systems.
  • Preparing inspection reports, responding to complaints/queries, reviewing contractor’s invoices for technical content and reviewing reports from Technical Standards & Safety Authority.
  • Investigate and prepare elevator accident reports
  • Reviewing and analysing results of operational efficiency tests, resolving related problems directly with contractor.
  • Co-ordinating, administering and ensuring code and contract compliance of elevator capital projects.
  • Assisting assessment of existing elevators for modernizing/upgrading of equipment.
  • The incumbent is responsible for researching, analyzing and preparing recommendations for efficient and effective programs and strategies related to elevator services.
  • Providing technical guidance and advice to Maintenance staff, serving as a trouble shooter for potential/actual elevator service problems.
  • Reviews, analyzes and recommends revisions or establishment of operational maintenance standards for elevator services.
  • Provide training for building superintendents on elevator operations especially emergency recall.
  • Provide access to elevator hoistway for various activities.

What you’ll need

  • Holder of current Ontario Elevating Device Mechanic certificate (EDM-A, QEI certified or EDM-F)
  • Demonstrated practical knowledge of elevator components related to building systems and the installation, alteration and maintenance of elevators
  • Ability to research, analyze and prepare recommendations for efficient and effective programs and strategies related to elevator services.
  • Ability to interpret and ensure compliance with elevator capital projects and maintenance agreements/contracts.
  • Experience with elevator installation in new construction project and MRL elevators.
  • Knowledge of the legislation, standards and safety codes governing elevator operation in Ontario
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to deal with staff and contractors, including the ability to prepare and make presentations and to prepare reports
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft excel and word programs. Ability to prepare and organize/modify spreadsheets
  • A Valid class G driver’s license is required
  • Full G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
