The Lead Logistics Specialist provides strategic and operational leadership to advance the effectiveness, consistency, and responsiveness of the Canadian Red Cross’s supply chain operations. This role leads the development and implementation of procurement policies, systems, tools, and training to enable compliant and efficient sourcing and logistics practices across the organization. As a key member of the Supply Chain Management (SCM) leadership team, the Lead Logistics Specialist champions continuous improvement, supports enterprise-wide systems and readiness, and fosters strong internal and external partnerships to ensure the supply chain function aligns with organizational goals and delivers value in both routine and emergency contexts.

In this role, you will:

Business Support

  • Act as the logistics and emergency supply specialist within the Civil Security Emergency Response Reserve (Réserve d’intervention d’urgence en sécurité civile - RIUSC) implementation project.
  • Create documentation about and manage all SCM business processes, including development of department KPIs for AOP.
  • Support the selection of logistics volunteer profiles, as well as planning their training pathway, supporting engagement and ongoing skills maintenance.
  • Develop an integration and engagement plan for specialized supply chain and logistics volunteers.
  • Lead the development and reporting of the department’s KPIs, including the quarterly dashboard to the Executive Leadership.
  • Develop, review, standardize, and optimize the SCM Department official communications to internal and external stakeholders, including processes, training materials, and system manuals.

Logistics and Special Projects Optimization

  • Provide strategic support to SCM Senior Director, including opportunities to improve processes, communications with stakeholders, training coordination and delivery of SCM services in Canada and Internationally.
  • Establish an SCM Department action plan for the RIUSC.
  • Build emergency supply capability for the RIUSC, including but not limited to logistics-related skills in planning and inventory management, transportation and distribution, as well as monitoring and traceability.
  • Lead system planning, implementation, and enhancement of logistics operation tools (e.g., Dynamics 365), including testing, data/process validation, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Act as a lead, provide guidance and expertise to SCM staff and internal stakeholders for all logistics functions, including emergency responses, readiness planning, deployment, and on-call responsibilities.
  • Ensure dual-track SCM systems and processes support both routine operations and emergency response needs.
  • Lead the development and apply performance standards, KPIs, and feedback mechanisms to drive operational effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the primary or designate Logistics Lead within the Field Operations Team during RIUSC operations.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum of 8–12 years experience and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in logistics, supply chain management, operations management, business, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require a graduate diploma/degree in a related field and/or a professional degree, certification, or designation.
  • Fluency in French is required, English is an asset.
  • Advanced professional expertise in one or more specialized technical or professional areas.
  • In-depth knowledge of end-to-end supply chain processes and best practices, health and safety regulations, customer service.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects, including ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365) implementation and enhancement.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement and logistics practices, including policy development, category management, contract negotiation, and supplier performance management.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, training materials, and compliance tools in logistics or procurement settings.
  • Ability to identify complex problems, conduct deep analysis in unfamiliar areas, predict outcomes, and develop innovative, collaborative solutions by balancing technical inputs with strategic objectives.
  • Communication and influencing skills to synthesize diverse and sometimes conflicting perspectives and find mutually beneficial solutions, often in sensitive or complex situations.

  • In a large-scale emergency where staff numbers are compromised or additional resources are required, provide disaster relief and/or emergency field operational support.
  • Must be available and ready to mobilize during the deployment of the RIUSC.
  • All roles contribute to emergency response efforts directly or indirectly.
  • For all CRC roles, duties and organizational priorities may be adjusted to support emergency responses. Staff may be required to be physically present to support the delivery of services and may be deployed to emergency responses when appropriate and/or necessary (staff availability and any requests for exceptions will be discussed with the manager).
  • For CRC roles that are assigned a function in the Emergency Response operational structure (in field and virtual), staff may be required to be part of an on-call roster and be available for scheduled on-call work.
