Job Description:
This role directly supports the day-to-day portfolio management activities of the Senior Director, Portfolio Management for SLF Canada. The role is an essential resource ensuring Canadian portfolios successfully execute on their established strategies and new initiatives as they arise. The role offers a wide variety of investment challenges and analytical opportunities. The candidate will build an understanding of risk limits, liquidity requirements, portfolio reporting and policies to monitor across asset classes, including public bonds, private placements, commercial mortgages, real estate, private equity, and derivatives.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Working closely with Investments, Finance, Operations, and Asset Liability Management teams, this role is responsible for developing and supporting the implementation of tactical and strategic investment decisions for asset portfolios in the Canadian business group. This involves working with all asset class partners that comprise the investment portfolio, including public bonds, private fixed income, commercial mortgages, real estate, public equity, private equity, derivatives and other alternative asset classes.
Support the Senior Portfolio Manager in managing assets backing Canadian business liability portfolios.
Perform recurring monitoring reports to ensure that investment metrics are achieved and portfolios are in compliance with established targets, including asset mix monitoring, minimum liquidity, credit quality, and interest rate risk management; proactively identify potential concerns and recommend solutions.
Execute and coordinate investment actions including orders to invest available cash, asset transfers, and other day-to-day operational activities.
Monitor non-fixed income portfolios and support ongoing initiatives to optimize or grow these portfolios in line with investment strategic objectives.
Support a variety of unique investment strategies, ensuring execution and performance is aligned with strategy expectations.
Participate in asset allocation decision making for private asset classes.
Develop new tools to monitor investment performance and risk metrics.
Create client investment materials for quarterly discussions.
Support strategic initiatives through various investment analysis.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:
A bachelor’s degree with a focus in business, finance, or a quantitative discipline preferred.
Two to three years of investments related experience.
Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft 365 applications including Access.
Strong interest in finance and investments.
Takes initiative and follows up on tasks proactively.
Problem solver with demonstrated ability to provide innovative solutions.
Agile and able to react quickly to emerging needs.
Creative and flexible thinker who enjoys exploring new ideas.
Detail-oriented and highly organized.
