About this opportunity:

The Lab Coordinator is a professional role that provides overall leadership, management and operational direction to an experienced, highly skilled team comprised of 9 lab technicians and field samplers across two SAGD assets (Christina Lake and Christina Lake North)

Work Environment:

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation

  • All Oil Sands Operations sites have full-service camp facilities and recreational amenities.

Transportation:

  • Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations.

  • Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB.

  • Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB.

  • Christina Lake North is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton.

  • Sunrise is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of a high-volume laboratory supporting samples testing and analysis for two adjacent SAGD oil sands sites.

  • Prioritize and direct team work to achieve goals efficiently using people, processes, and technology

  • Oversee lab operations, leveraging advanced analytical equipment (e.g., GC, ICP, titration, viscosity/density tools)

  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and resolving operational challenges and enhancing processes

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and Cenovus Operations Integrity Management System (COIMS) standards while modeling a strong safety culture

  • Develop, coach, and manage team performance, including talent planning, feedback, and growth plans

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Relevant university degree or technical diploma is required

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience supported with 3+ years of proven people leadership experience

  • Extensive hands-on experience operating and interpreting results from a wide range of analytical lab equipment, including chromatography, ICP, titration, and physical property analyzers

  • CALA accredited Lab experience would be an asset

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
