The Purchasing Agent is responsible for the procurement of products and services (such as off-site manufacturing and fabrication) in alignment with client requirements, jurisdictional authorities (including applicable codes and standards such as TSSA and ASME, etc), and Company Policies & Procedures, ensuring work is completed in a timely, cost-effective manner while mitigating risk and liability for CNL. Through this work, a high level of product and service knowledge is developed, positioning the Purchasing Agent as a recognized subject matter expert within their assigned purchase category—apply today!

What will you be doing!

  • Negotiating pricing, delivery terms, and contracts for products and services to ensure strong value while minimizing risk and disruption.
  • Resolving supplier and contractual issues, including terms and conditions exceptions, to maintain uninterrupted service and streamline procurement processes.
  • Preparing quotations, recommending sourcing strategies, and issuing purchase orders to support operational, project, and client requirements.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for assigned projects and client groups, providing procurement expertise, guidance, and coaching.
  • Supporting domestic and international commercial projects by delivering dedicated, high-quality procurement services.
  • Maintaining the Approved Vendor Database by monitoring vendor qualifications and updating certifications and quality documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s Degree or three (3) year College Diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, combined with four (4) to seven (7) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Enrolment and participation in the National Institute of Supply Chain Leaders (NISCL) Certification Program or similar type program is considered and asset.
  • Experience
    • Applying ethical purchasing and business practices, including knowledge of products, services, supply sources, and market trends.
    • Assessing, recommending, and implementing process and procedural improvements.
    • Supporting procurement quality assurance practices within regulated environments such as the Nuclear Industry.
    • Working with domestic and international commercial projects and contracts, including adherence to codes and jurisdictional requirements.
    • Using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Oracle Purchasing and iProcurement (or similar) to support procurement activities.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Strong analytical, business, and negotiation skills to develop sourcing strategies and finalize contracts.
    • Knowledge of commercial and contractual formats, including an understanding of business law principles.
    • Ability to lead and promote continuous process improvement initiatives.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word to develop cost summaries, spreadsheets, and reports.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills to interact with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
  • This position is part of the USW 4096-404 and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the USW 4096-404 Collective Agreement.
